Girls Leading the Lane is a female-focused aquatic sport workshop designed to help girls see a future for themselves in aquatic sport, both in and beyond the pool.

This workshop brings together female athletes, coaches, and role models from across swimming, water polo, artistic swimming and pool lifesaving for an afternoon of skill development, leadership, connection and inspiration.

Who is this for?

This workshop is designed for female athletes aged 12 years and above, with parents and coaches also welcome to attend the panel discussion and observe from pool deck.

The session is suited to girls who are already involved in aquatic sport and are looking to build confidence, try new skills, connect with others and learn more about the different pathways available across aquatics.

In-water activities will be grouped by age and ability where needed, helping ensure the session is safe, practical and suitable for all participants.

The day will include:

  • A female leadership panel and Q&A
  • In-water skill rotations across swimming, water polo, artistic swimming and pool lifesaving
  • Practical, confidence-building activities
  • Opportunities to connect with athletes and leaders from different aquatic disciplines
  • A supportive, inclusive and low-pressure environment

Leadership panel

The workshop will include a active discussion with female athletes, coaches and leaders from the aquatic sport community.

The panel will explore topics such as:

  • Building confidence in and around sport
  • Balancing sport, school, study, work, friends and life
  • What leadership can look like at different ages
  • How girls can stay involved in sport even when their role or pathway changes

Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions and hear from women who have taken different pathways through aquatic sport.

Why this event matters

Girls Leading the Lane is about more than one afternoon in the water.

It is about creating a visible, supportive and female-focused environment where girls can build confidence, connect with others and see that aquatic sport can offer many different pathways.

Whether they continue as athletes, become coaches, step into leadership roles, support others as officials, or simply stay connected to sport in a way that works for them, this workshop aims to help girls recognise that they belong in aquatic sport.

Please register each participant.
